Anybody else noticed how badly Arturia synths treat Midi CC messages? In some of them there's literally no Midi CC interpolation at all. You get tons of stair stepping. Even on critical things like filter cutoff.
I don't know why such a high caliber company that sells their own Midi controllers are so bad at doing proper controller smoothing.. you just need to interpolate between the midi messages and have some built in filtering (or "lag") at the translation layer where Midi CC is converted to the internal knob resolution.
Almost all other companies do this adequately and some do this ridiculously well (FabFilter).
Was planning on sending a support request to Arturia but decided to do a bit of google searching and it looks like tons of people have noticed this over the years and probably a lot of them have already sent a support request/feature wish for this. How on earth do they still release synths in these modern times that can't handle proper Midi CC smoothing? Are their digitally controlled analogue hardware synths this bad as well when controlled by external controllers?
So far I've tried almost all of their synths and almost all of them are really bad. The newest one I have here is the MS-20 and even that one has noticeable stair stepping on filter cutoff and a lot of other controls.
EDIT: NOTE, this is not a huge problem other than when wanting to record 100% live into audio output. You can always record the actual automation with a midi controller and then once you play it back it'll be completely smooth. It's just annoying to jam and play the arturia synths live with a lot of stair stepping and if you want to quickly sample a passage into a sampler or into audio, that's when this becomes a real problem.
EDIT2: Also interestingly, if you route Modwheel through some of Arturias internal mod matrixes, it is properly filtered/smoothed. However, if you route that modwheel directly through Midi Learn to the exact same parameter, then it isn't smoothed at all. Example: Arturia OP-Xa where you can easily test this.![Rolling Eyes :roll:]()
