So I've been messing around with "americana" today. Which is basically clean guitar tones electric and acoustic which make up the folk/rock/country prevalent in the 60's and 70's (Dylan, Beatles) and trying to find some usable drum loops that will fit in the background without overshadowing and still have breaks. fills

Notice how the drums are not over the top. How they accentuate different ideas and how they build up to lead into a change (at the end of the verse and chorus)
As a songwriter they work great for me whether it's the "RealTracks" "Real Drums only" or super midi tracks.
With real tracks when dropping tempo too slow it does affect instrument pitch/sound quality including the drums. That being said when using ""Super Midi" it's easy to drop into a midi track and apply a drum sampler for more "realism"
