Hosts & Applications (Sequencers, DAWs, Audio Editors, etc.) • Which DAW for midi mapping external synth as a vst controller

Hey all,

Currently I own a Gaia-2, and planning on moving to the System-8 at some point in the future.

Due to the great knob-per-function layout of both, they would appear to make a much better midi controller for synth vsts than current controllers like the Keylab MK3, Launchkey Mk4, etc...

Ideally I want to be able to open a vst & the sliders would control the envelopes, and the osc / filter knobs control the respective parameter on the plugin after they have been setup / mapped.

Currently I use Bitwig 5.2.6 which is limited by pages of 8 'remote controls' at a time, unless you write a custom script afaik.

Tried Studio One Pro 7 & although I can map almost all the knobs + sliders on the Gaia-2, there is no parameter catch-up so you get value jumping when switching presets & moving a control on the hardware due to most of the controls giving out absolute values rather than relative.

So can anyone suggest a better DAW for my use case?

I thought of Cubase, but after some reading their midi mapping feature has issues.

Live 12 maybe?

I expect the answer to my question is probably Reaper + ReLearn, but I thought I'd ask in case there's one I'm missing out on.
