Hi,
I recently came across that video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-bMcWPDIPM
demonstrating how to control modular hardware with CV/Gate signals that are created through a "normal" audio interface - which sounds logic, as audio signals are also "just voltage".
So I wanted to try doing this with my Korg Volca modular but cant get it to work.
I tried multiple different audio interfaces, and played with all possible settings and combinations, but only with two of the interfaces result in any effect at all, but just have some quirky effect on sounds being played on the volca(so there is *some* electricity going through), but no proper note and gate signals.
I can't describe the setup in detail now because i didn't try just a single, but many different setups, with multiple audio interfaces, all possible cabling ways (as the volca uses one stereo jack for CV/Gate joined, they need to be merged somehow when they come as 2 separated mono signals), and all combinations of the settings the Hardware CV device offers.
The interfaces I used are:
* tascam model 24
* Steinberg ur22c
* iRig pro duo
* behringer 1820
Only the tascam and the behringer did result in "any" kind of effect on the volca, but, as I said, no real proper controlled gate/cv behaviour.
So, I'd like to understand:
* did anyone do this all successfully - ideally with a volca modular?
* is there a good/bad list of possible audio interfaces that can or cannot be expected to work?
* are there any debugging tips, settings to look for etc. to troubleshoot the setup?
BTW: I confirmed that volca and cv in general works, with multiple different external devices: with the cv control from synthstrom deluge, with an akai mpc one, and with cv/gate from an arturia keystep pro.
